Knox County Democratic Party Elects Full Board of Governors at Biennial Reorganization Convention on Saturday
KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (April 6, 2025)--
The Knox County Democratic Party elected a new Board of Governors Saturday at its Biennial Reorganization Convention held at Bearden Middle School.
Knox Dems Chair Stuart Hohl–who was appointed party chair in April 2024–was elected chair of the party on Saturday. Shannon Webb–who has served as party treasurer under five party chairs–was re-elected party treasurer. Democratic 2024 candidates Domonica Bryan, who campaigned against state Sen. Becky Duncan Massey, was elected vice chair, and Terrye Whitaker, who campaigned for School Board in District 5 in Farragut, was elected secretary.
“With the election of a full Board of Governors Saturday, the Knox County Democratic Party is moving into 2026 fully equipped to take on the challenges the destructive MAGA agenda will present to the people of Knox County,” said Chair Stuart Hohl. “I’m excited to work with this talented group dedicated to bringing commonsense and compassion to local government.”
The Knox County Democratic Party thanks former Vice Chair CJ Butcher and the former secretary, City Councilwoman Debbie Helsley, for their service to the party.
The local Democratic party’s bylaws dictate that the party reorganize every two years. District chairs (two for each of the county’s nine County Commission districts) were also elected Saturday. There were 128 delegates at the convention who were selected by each district’s group of volunteers.
The last cycle was a successful one for the Knox County Democratic Party. Multiple Democrats picked up seats in the August 2024 elections, and local Democrats held onto their state seats in November. In the last two years, Knox Dems raised $246,436.06. In 2024, the party, Democratic candidates, and allied organizations knocked over 100,000 doors in Knox County. During the 2024 elections, Knox Dems sent over 150,000 text messages, sent more than 40,000 pieces of mail, and made thousands of calls.
